Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-10-24

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Candlepaw app (the "App"), provided by Pocketleaf, operated by Kyrylo Niesmielov (published on Google Play as "NiesmielovTeam" and on the App Store as "Kyrylo Niesmielov") ("we", "us"). By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Apple's standard licence

If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, your use of it is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. These Terms add to the Standard EULA; where they conflict, the Standard EULA applies to the extent required.

3. Licence

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, subject to these Terms and the rules of the store you got it from.

4. A companion, not therapy

Candlepaw offers gentle, general support for grief. It is not therapy, counselling, medical or veterinary advice, and it is not an emergency service.

If you are thinking about harming yourself or feel unsafe, contact your local emergency number now. In the United States and Canada you can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support-line numbers in the App come from public directories; please confirm hours before calling.

5. Your content

Everything you write, record or add in the App is yours. It is stored on your device, and you are responsible for keeping your own copies — the App lets you export it at any time. Because we don't hold a copy, we can't recover content that is deleted from your device or lost with it.

If you stop paying for Pro, nothing you created is removed: it stays readable and exportable.

6. Free and Pro

Some features are free for everyone, always: your companion's memorial page, your first letter, help when a wave of grief hits, the candle and the practical checklist. Other features — such as the full 28-day path, unlimited memories, voice notes, the book of memory and printable pages, and some widgets — require Pro. The App shows which is which.

7. Subscriptions, trial and billing

Pro is available as an auto-renewing monthly subscription, an auto-renewing yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. From time to time the App may also offer a yearly subscription at a reduced price for the first year, which then renews at the regular yearly price. The price and period of each option are shown in the App before you buy and may vary by country.

The yearly subscription may include a 7-day free trial. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it converts to a paid yearly subscription and you are charged at the end of the trial. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase (or when the trial ends). Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.

You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your device's account settings: on iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.

The lifetime purchase is a single payment, not a subscription, and does not renew.

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.

8. Restoring purchases

If you reinstall the App or move to a new device, use Restore purchases in the App to recover Pro on the same Apple ID or Google account.

9. Acceptable use

Please don't misuse the App: don't try to bypass purchases, interfere with its operation, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows.

10. The app stores

These Terms are between you and us, not with Apple or Google, and we — not they — are responsible for the App and its content. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App. Apple and Google, and their subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You must also follow the terms of the store you use.

11. Disclaimer

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pocketleaf is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including loss of content stored on your device. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

13. Ending use

You can stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend access if these Terms are seriously breached.

14. Governing law and changes

These Terms are governed by the law of the place where the operator is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and without taking away any protection the consumer law of your own country gives you. We may update these Terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the App after a change means you accept it.
