What is this coin, and should you keep it?
Photograph both sides. Mintglass names the coin, gives a rough AI estimate with its limits written next to it, and says plainly whether to keep it, show an appraiser, or keep it as a memory.

Two sides of the coin, one label.
- I
Obverse
The front of the coin, on a plain dark background, without glare. Frame the whole coin.
- II
Reverse
The back of the coin. Some inscriptions and design details only appear on this side. Without it, the label says what it could not read.
- III
The label
What the coin is, how sure the reading is, the estimate with its limits, and one verdict: keep, show an appraiser, or probably worth little.
Forgot the reverse? Add it within 30 minutes of the first scan. The second photo does not use another scan.
An estimate, not a grading.
- I
Not a certified grading.
Mintglass is not PCGS or NGC, and it does not grade a coin's condition for a sale.
- II
Not a price guarantee.
A value is a rough AI estimate in US dollars, with its date. It is not an offer to buy or sell.
- III
Not financial advice.
Before you sell a coin you think is valuable, get a professional appraiser to see it in hand.
We have not measured identification accuracy yet. Until we have tested it on real coins, we quote no accuracy percentage, and the app says so next to every estimate.
Three answers. No hype.
Keep
A collectible or a series worth keeping. Store it in a sleeve, away from sun and damp.
Show an appraiser
The estimate is high enough to check in hand, or we are not sure which coin it is. A guess is never the answer.
Probably worth little
The estimate is low. Keep it as a memory if you like it. We say so plainly, even when that is the answer.
Your coins, catalogued as you go.
Save what you identify. Search by country, year and type, and filter by keep, appraiser or probably worth little. Every scan stays in your history.
Batch mode · Monthly and yearly
Inherited a box? Scan it coin by coin, then sort the results into keep, appraiser and let go.
Where a photo goes, step by step.
- 1
Your phone
The photo is resized to at most 1024 px before it leaves the phone.
- 2
Identification service
Receives the photo. Keeps scan metadata, not the image.
- 3
AI model
Anthropic's Claude model reads the coin and returns the fields.
- 4
Your label
The answer comes back to the app. The estimate is shown with its limits.
Photos leave your phone only to be identified. A copy of each scanned coin stays in the app on your phone so your collection and history work.

Asked at the wall.
Is this a certified appraisal or grading?
No. Mintglass is not a certified grading service such as PCGS or NGC, and its values are not price guarantees or offers to buy or sell. For a coin that may be valuable, take it to a professional appraiser.
How accurate is the identification?
We have not measured it yet. We will not publish an accuracy percentage until it has been tested on a set of real coins, and until then the app says the accuracy is not measured.
Where does my photo go?
The photo is sent to our identification service, which passes it to an AI model to read the coin. Our server keeps scan metadata, not the image. A copy also stays in your collection and history on your phone.
What is free?
Three identifications a month, with the identification only. The value estimate, the keep or appraiser verdict, the collection and batch mode are part of the paid plans.
Forgot the reverse side?
Add it within 30 minutes of the first scan. The second photo does not use another scan.
Which coins are covered?
We start with coins from the United States and a narrow set of series. Banknotes are not included in this first version.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancel there before the renewal date.
